traditional pubs city of london
Does London still have local pubs and communitys like on Eastenders and is it the same for other cities?

I have explored some other cities in England as I have friends there, what I was upset about as they told me is the traditional pub on the corner of the street is closed down and its not like it was 30 years ago with a close community and neighbours etc.. going to the pub to relax and socalise like we see on Coronation street, eastenders and Emerdale farm, Cities like Bradford, leicester, and yorkshire places had closed pubs which is sad, Im new in England and thought every community had a pub like we see on TV. How is London like or is it the same as we see on the TV Soaps?

I was born & bred in London.Hackney to be precise & have lived in Islington for most of my 49 years.I am no longer a drinker, but pubs were very much part of my life, from childhood up to my forties.
the “white-flight” of London’s indigenous working class population & the influx of muslim immigrants has seen the demise of pub life in London except in the tourist areas.
Sky T.V,cheap booze, foreign holidays & different aspirational goals from previous generations have also added to the decline.Hackney Road was bustling with pubs & nightlife 20 years ago & working class boys & girls flocked from all over the East-End.Sadly it’s all gone.Walworth & the Old Kent Road has gone the same.
high property prices in London have made it more profitable to convert pubs to other uses ie shops, offices, etc, etc.
