Do I need a CAR to LIVE in Boston?
I’m considering taking a federal gov’t job in Boston…not sure of the location where I would be working. I don’t have a car. Do I need one to live in this city or will I be screwed? I’m from a small town in NJ and have never been to “beantown,” LOL. I’ve been to NYC many times and of course their pub. trans. is tops but is Boston’s anything like this? Also what’s it like there for African American female? TY.
No, you do not necessarily need a car to live in Boston. They have a subway called the ‘T’ that connects much of the city with some suburbs as well (guess it’ll depend on how far away you live from the city).
For instance, should you reside in Marlborough or Worchester, then yes, you’d need a car because they are about 1/2 hour or so from the nearest train station and about 1/2 hour or so by train into downtown Boston.
Check out www.mbta.com to find out about the different subway stations and what cities they coincide with.
I’d also suggest looking up – www.bostonusa.com for other information. You can also contact the Greater Boston Convention & Visitor’s Bureau for other information.
Boston is a great city – I have been there on vacation 4x. There is a lot of culture and history there. I think you’d really like it.
