The Story Behind The Go-Go Song
The story theme takes place in two major locations, in a Latino bar and on the streets in major cities at night in the world. The chronicle is the parallel tale of a man walking around the world at night and the same man singing with his band in a Latin Club. The message is people are go-go everywhere. From Los Angeles to Barcelona or even from Paris to New York everyone is go-go where everyone’s nobody anywhere.
Part of the story happens in a live music club. The singer is going to his showcase to sing with his band and play at a Latino nightclub somewhere but location is not defined to the audience (yet we should have some Latino feel). We want to give the impression of proximity to most people. This picture represents cities so it does convey the message.
The next set of shots feature the singer, the crowd and his band in the club. There are dancers and other hip people in the room. Those dancers could be coming from anywhere in the world so we need different ethnicity (African American, Asian, White and European). The video is shot with dynamism and sensuality so the need of good-looking people (actors/actresses) and female/male dancers is mandatory especially when the salsa part starts in the song. Image has color reduction. It gives a feel of reality in this video clip rich in lighting nuances and Latino ambiance.
In the club on the forefront there is the band with drums, percussion, guitars, bass and brass section. The dancers are on the dance floor some maybe one or two on stage. There is a full crowd maybe at band level or musicians are on an elevated stage. When the salsa rhythm begins, numerous couples dance together with sensuality a little like the dirty dancing in Havana movie. The singer might join the crowd at some point. The party should look passionate, sensual and fun.
The main action takes place in a club but the changing cities are interesting (LA, NYC, Paris, and Barcelona). The singer, the main character is also walking around the world in major cities at night singing the verse while walking on the streets. He will wear the same clothes giving a timeless sense, such as all of this action happened tonight. Clothes are a hat, jacket, maybe a scarf jeans and boots. While on the streets he will sing the lines. If shooting in different cities is not possible we might end up using one location only, which will eventually take away the eccentricity in the video and its interest. We want to generate the idea that it can happen next door from the avenues in Paris to Time Square in New York or from Hollywood Boulevard in LA to The Old Town Square in Barcelona.
The right nuances such as color reduction and location are key in this tale. They give a hip look to the short scenes and merge well with night shots. We also want to avoid being too neutral in colors. Video should not look like any other homemade video. It is not. The image must be pleasant to watch and catchy (avoid grainy images). Therefore we should watch for lighting and image settings.
At the end we want the crowd to sing the English Chorus. So we should teach the crowd to sing the lines as a crowd or find a way to record voices singing those lines in English. Either we use the sound from the room or we record voices in another studio.
