What’s the nightlife for a young white guy in Taipei?
I’ll being going to Taipei for 3 months and I’ve been wondering what to expect from it’s night life. A female Taiwanese friend of mine said that girls will be approaching me in night clubs all the time and things like that. I’m not too sure what to think about this, but maybe some of you have experience in that. Is it really as easy as they say, or should I not be believing her or my friends who went to China?
Well… living close to some of the nightclubs and coming home from late shifts I can tell you it normally goes something like this:
The young white guys get drunk (which costs a hell of a lot as alcohol is very expensive over here) and normally crawl/roll home in an embarrassing fashion waking up everyone in the neighbourhood on the way, occasionally spewing here and there… they then proceed to 7-11, eat their burger/hotdog and normally throw the rubbish on the ground and argue/flirt with their newly found friends ( I Iive 3 floors above a 7-11 and am normally woken up by this). There’s normally Taiwanese girls with them… the next day there will be a different foreigner (but) with the same girl/s who waits at the same club/bar for foreigners to come along.
Believe it or not but I’m actually white myself. So… in a nutshell – yes in ‘nightclubs’ you will be approached… be you young, old, ugly or handsome – the fact that you’re foreign will instantly make you a target… whether they’re after your wallet or just free English lessons. There are many many nice people in Taiwan – in fact more so than in other countries I’ve lived in and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet nice people in other locations besides nightclubs… unless that’s what you after.
