How can a person plead not guilty to something they are guilty of?
For example, Plaxico Burress pleaded not guilty to carrying a weapon in a Manhattan night club but accidently shot himself. Isn’t he guilty?
Almost certainly he is. What does he gain by pleading guilty?
This way he has the option of a trial that might weasel him out somehow. A guilty plea probably means jail time as well; why start serving sooner than later ?
