pubs and events in Boston, St. Paddy’s ’08?
I’m a massachusetts native hosting some friends from around the U.S. for St. Paddys this year. We all lived together in Galway, Ireland for a semester last year, and I want to show them a good time here. Any suggestions on good pubs, places for good Irish music?
I went to Boston for St. Pat’s last year and I am going back this year with friends. There are tons of good bars/pubs in the Faneuil Hall area but a favorite is the Black Rose. As a note, on St. Pat’s the Black Rose will start at about $15 to get in the door in the morning and by mid-day it could be around $30 and by the evening we have seen as high as $50 and that is just to get in so get there early. It is a great bar though, two levels and last year they had live Irish music on both floors. It gets packed but b/c it is big you don’t feel like you are on top of each other. In addition, upstairs has TVs so if you want to catch March Madness games you are in luck. On the parade day South Boston is the place to be for sure. However since so many firefighters and police officers march in the parade, most places don’t charge them to get in but it is usually $20 for the rest of us to get in.
Good luck and drink a pint for good ol’ St. Patrick!
