Chelsea Handler Tickets – Will Chelsea Handler Make the Move to the Majors?
With all of the recent controversy surrounding dueling late night hosts Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien, some people have been wondering if and when E! late night host Chelsea Handler will make the move to a major network. According to CBS News, the host of Chelsea Handler has been approached by a major network.
When CBS Evening News host Katie Couric asked, “Why can’t they have a woman do, on a major network, a late-night comedy show?” Handler replied, “They actually came to me and approached me for—a network—probably like a year and a half ago, when the whole talk of the shakedown was going.” Handler continued to say, “Yeah, and to be quite honest, I didn’t think I was really ready to graduate to that particular point. And I’m not really sure that that’s where the future of late night is.”
A major network gig doesn’t look too far-fetched, though, as Chelsea Handler’s star continues to rise thanks to another best-selling book. Handler recently released her third book, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang, which promptly landed at No. 2 on USA TODAY‘s Best-Selling Books List. Following 2005′s My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands (Bloomsbury) and 2008′s Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea (Simon Spotlight), Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang (Grand Central Publishing) has secured Handler her highest ranking on the USA TODAY‘s list to date.
“I’m just so happy that people care enough to see me do anything. It’s fun to do the stand-up. It’s fun to do the TV show and I love being called an author, but in this day and age, I think anyone can get away with that title. I love all of it, but first and foremost I’m just a comedienne,” USA TODAY quoted Handler saying in her usual self-deprecation. The modest comedienne threw a book launch at new club Bar 210/Plush, located next to the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, on March 17.
The Los Angeles Times reported that stars like Robin Wright (a gal pal of Handler’s) was on hand for the fete along with Jenny McCarthy, Jay Leno, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Diablo Cody, Leah Remini and Kris Jenner. Handler’s sidekick Chuy was also in attendance along with some regular’s from her E! show’s roundtable.
The triple-threat (talk show host, standup comedian and author) is currently on tour promoting Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. Handler kicked off her book tour in Chicago on March 10 and will stop in cities like Atlanta, Ga.; Detroit, Mich.; Uncasville, Conn.; Boston, Mass.; Austin, Texas; Philadelphia, Pa.; Kansas City, Mo.; San Diego, Calif. and more before wrapping up her trek in New York at Radio City Music Hall on May 16. Although E! recently announced plans to continue Chelsea Lately until 2012, Handler’s romance with President and CEO of Comcast (which owns E!) Ted Harbert has fizzled. Hander, 34, and Harbert, 55, were together for four years and shared a home (which Handler reportedly moved out of post-split). Back when the news of the split first surfaced in January, an E! rep told Usmagazine.com, “The couple is no longer residing together. Ted has nothing but the highest regard for Chelsea both personally and professionally.”
