I’m about to turn 21 in a couple days, and I’ve been waiting for this so I can do stand up comedy. Any Tips?

I know there a few clubs that you don’t have to be 21 to preform in, but I know you can get into more when you’re 21. This will be my first time, and I guess I will go find an open mic somewhere. Right now I’m in Lexington KY, and so I’m not sure how my material will work on the crowd or what my crowd will be for that matter. Any tips for a new young comedian just starting out?

Speak clearly, speak slowly and use pauses wisely. Tape yourself before hand if you can and listen to it as if you were an audience member.

Rhythm is a huge part of comedy. Watch modern comics like Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy but also older comedians like Jackie Mason and especially Jack Benny. Jack Benny could crack up an audience simply by putting his hand on his chin and looking at the audience. Timing timing timing.

Good luck and have fun!
