Received a summons for pub urination in NYC and missed court date is there a warrant?
I recieved a summons to appear in court on april 21st i showed up that day and it was a sat and the court was closed the security guard told me it happens all the time and told me to come back whenever i can mon to fri 8-4 i had finals the next week and was so stressed out cause it was my last semester i had forgoten about my summons and just found it now i want to know what my best choice is to do i know i need to contact the court asap but should i get a lawyer first? should i just appear in court and plead for mercy or should i just turn myself in to a police station???
I deal with that on a daily basis. If someone has a warrant, first call in and check when the best time to turn yourself in at, and if there is a bail. Were I work if you turn yourself in before 5am then you have a 95% chance to go to court that morning.
If there is a bail, bring the cash with you, then you just have to go through the booking process before you are released for a future court date.
As bad as it may sound, missing one court date, and for the reason you gave, is no big deal. Just get it over with and you can move on.
